Historical Milestones

• Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (SLITHM) formerly known as the Ceylon Hotel School & School of Tourism was established by a Parliament Act in 1966 to train youth on tourism and was managed by the then Ceylon Tourist Board.
• The main objective was the provision of manpower for the hospitality industry through middle and top management as well as craft level courses
• It was initially located at Park Street, Colombo in 1980. Later relocated to Palm Beach Hotel in Mt.Lavinia (1986) and Nawala (1994).
• Today the Institute is located at: No.78, Galle Road, Colombo 03.
• The conversion of Ceylon Hotel School into the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management was carried out under the 2005 Tourism Act.
• At present the Institute conducts courses at Craft, Certificate, International, Advanced and Management levels.
• In addition it also conducts short term training programmes for SME and various other institutes.
