Chauffeur Tourist Guide Course (Licensing Program)

Tourism is a multidisciplinary industry and therefore involves many different stakeholders for its operational activities. Among them the tourist guides play a major role in the tourism industry. Tourist Guide Service as defined as a service provided to tourists by escorting them or giving them information and narrations concerning all aspects of tourism interests in Sri Lanka.Since tourists need to have a clear picture of the country and its offerings, laws, rules and regulations and other expected behavioral patterns. Moreover, guides should have the ability to transform the tourist visit into an unforgettable experience. In addition to the quality and ability of tourist guides, there are many problems and issues associated with their services that can impact on the ultimate satisfaction of the tourists. A chauffeur tourist guide lecturer is a person who is duly registered as a chauffeur tourist guide and to practice as a tourist guide and a chauffeur of a vehicle with a seating capacity of not more than 7 anywhere within the island of Sri Lanka.The aim of this course is to produce a disciplinary Chauffeur Tourist Guide with all the above mentioned qualifications and qualities. This course focuses to develop standardized Tour guides with driving discipline and to obtain the “licence” issued by SLTDA as the prime legal requirement to perform as a Tourist Guide in Sri Lanka

Objectives

It may help to become a disciplinary tour guide with all qualifications and qualities.

To increases the technical and social competencies as well as the intellectual qualities including comprehensive knowledge and a strong grasp of the subject matter, good analytical skills, and a comparative perspective for historic cultural sites and to better understand the cultural background, personal expectations and behaviors of tourists.

It may lead to quality improvements in hosting tourists and to increasing customer satisfaction and loyalty, and in this way facilitates the positioning of tourism enterprises in the international market.

Entry Qualifications

The applicant should be a citizen of Sri Lanka.

Applicant should be between 23 and 65 years of age on the closing date of the application

Should have passed the G. C. E. O/L Examination
with six subjects in at least two sitting
(“S” pass for English Language is compulsory
for English speaking guides)

Should have completed a Tour guiding programme
which offers NVQ level 03/ 04

Continued service experience not less than 05 years
as an Area Tourist Guide
—– or —–
Continued service experience not less than 08 years
as a Site Tourist Guide

Should possess a valid license issued by a competent authority
to drive a vehicle with a seating capacity of seven (07),
with at least five (05) years of experience of driving such a vehicle
